Rationale

Sherrington was interested in how neurons control muscles and co-ordinate movement of the body. We often think of different parts of our body as being separate but they all work together. This activity allows pupils to make links in their knowledge.

Activity

Inspire artwork and conversation with images of neurons controlling muscles.

For secondary schools – you can introduce synapses which Sherrington named, together with muscle fibres.
