Brainy bits

comment
Suitability: KS2, KS3, KS4, A Level

Rationale

We’ve put together images of the brain from our teaching collection. While used for teaching science they already resemble works of art.

Activity

Download and print out images of real brain bits (Brain sections) or project for inspiring artwork.

This is the organ that makes us who we are.

Images can be used to encourage discussion. Ask pupils about the brain – what does it do, what is it made of, how it would feel and what do we not yet understand?

Take a look on CSlide online and zoom into these historic brain sections as if using a microscope – see if you can find a neuron!

“it is as though our mind were a pool of which the movements on the surface only are what we experience”

Sir Charles Scott Sherrington from ‘Man on his Nature’ (1940)
