Description:
‘Dear Dr Nettleship,
I hear from my sister that the albino pup is a creamy colour on head, ears & back – she is 5 weeks old & I shall soon be having her home. I enclose her sire’s pedigree & her mother is named “Ting of noke” by Ma of Alderbourne ex Tong. Ma of A. is by Manchu Tao Tai ex Manchu Wei Wei.
I enclose you a photo of this litter of your Tong’s by Ma of A. There were 5 but one had died. No. 2 is the mother of the albino pup No. 3 is my poor little Pyuka[?] who died whelping – No. 1 is a red bitch also & 4 is a red dog. Tong had 2 litters by Ma of A. & one 4 pups by a red dog I had by Peiching Pakling (Piking Paul ex Valeria) ex Woo-la-lu by Peiching Pagoda ex Wee-lu both by G. Chun. These were all red. I believe Tong had a red litter by Wang chia T’ing of Alderbourne before I had her – I know she never had an albino puppy till you had her.
I suppose you have now mated your dog to a coloured bitch? His brother is a dark red with a lot of black in it.
My little red dog is named “Mimosa” & is by Brackley Kin chan (but Japs[?]), ex Sug Nan by Pekin Pom ex See Bah of Radnage. I can only fine one Ah Cum in his Pedigree, far back. B. Kin-chan is a tiny little dog & a great winner. I have shown “Mimosa” twice & he took a 3rd & then two 1sts. He is also very small & has no white, I am anxious to mate my Tong to him because he has an absolutely flat face, jet black & though he is good in body yet he lacks the “squareness” of Tong & I think she ought to have some nice puppies to him.’

Description:
‘Dear Sir,
Tong’s pups, if a month old, ought to be fed about twice a day in addition to what they get from their mother, & with a little teaching will soon learn to lap. I give mine warmed sweetened new milk, or cream with a little hot water & sugar added, but if we did not keep cows I should use Lactol. I do sometimes use it & I like it very much, & puppies always do well on it. When about 5 weeks old I encourage them to eat a little raw scraped beef & then I often mix a little hard boiled egg with it, or Melox, but raw meat is beef if you can get it. At 6 or 7 weeks the puppies should be fit to leave the mother. I am surprised at what you tell me about Tong. We thought her a most inoffensive little thing. I don’t remember her attacking any of the other dogs once. We always thought her too meek.
As regards the puppy – I suppose one could find a dog without any cross of Ah Cum, Meh, or Mimosa, but I don’t know. My dog by Peiching Pakling I have sold as I did not care for his puppies at all. I have a sweet little dark red dog I intend to keep. He is by Wong-ti of Alderbourne ex a little bitch by Ch. Chu-êrli[?] & I find there is one cross, far back in Wong-ti’s pedigree, of Mimosa, & in my dog’s mothers of Ah Cum & Meh (1 cross).
Wang Chia T’ing[?] is full of Ah Cum & Meh blood, having 6 crosses in his pedigree of these dogs. I am buying a dog of the Peiching Pakling strain, & I find there is one cross of Ah Cum, very far back. But if I had one of the puppies there would be plenty of time to look out a dog of the strain you require. What do you think about the price? Frankly I don’t care to give much for an albino puppy, with so much albino blood in her, for I expect she would breed albinos, bred as she is, but one never knows, of course. So far as I know Tong’s red puppies have bred reds, but of course I do not know what has become of all of them.
Yrs very truly,
Florence E. Frankllin.’

Description:
‘Dear Sir,
I am delighted to hear Tong has such a nice family - I do wonder what they are like. Her pups were always very pretty, but I have never seen an albino puppy.
I believe her first litter was by Wung Chia T’ing of Alderbourne, who is by Fusan[?] ex Manchu Pas’en[?]. He is a biscuit, but I believe the pups were red.
Then I bought her & she had 2 fives to Ona of Alderbourne, who only has one cross of Goodwood Lo & that on his dam’s side; all these pups were red with black faces. Then she missed once. The next time she had 4 to a dog of my own by Peiching Pakling. These were red. I think her having albinos only shows that she always has puppies the colour of the sire. Of course, most Pekingese go back to Ah Cum & Mimosa.
I expect the puppies can run about now?
I suppose you would not care to sell me one at a moderate price, just to keep the same strain? The one I have of Tong’s (a lovely little bitch) has missed twice & I fear she won’t breed at all.
Yrs very truly,
Florence E. Franklin.’

Description:
‘Dear Sir,
It did not matter about the basket at all. People don’t generally tidy up the baskets that dogs come in, & I was much obliged by your returning it so promptly. Tong’s parents were brother & sister, but I do not know if they were of the same litter. I enclose a print taken from a magazine (4 years old) of Palace Pong, who is I think very like Tong when in full coat.
She is a very good mother, & if you breed from her with another albino I shall be interested to hear if she has albino puppies. Mrs Bennett Stanford bred Tong (& I believe Palace Ping was an albino) so I suppose Mrs Bennett Stanford owned her mother. I have never bred an albino Pekingese, but once had two white puppies, with black eyes & noses, but they were no relation to Tong.
Yrs very truly,
Florence E. Franklin.’
