Quoted by Micheal Finn, 'The West Riding Lunatic Asylum and the making of the modern brain sciences in the nineteenth century', University of Leeds PhD thesis (2012).
Description:
'Carpenter had addressed the editor of the Times to distance himself from the view - which he claimed had wrongly been attributed to him - that the cerebral hemispheres 'do not act in isolated portions, but as a whole'. On the defensive, he had written 'the results of Dr. Ferrier's admirable experiments... will be found, if I mistake not, conformable in every particular to the general doctrines I have long maintained'.'
