The foramen leads from the third ventricle in the median plane to the lateral ventricles on either side. Observe the following structures and their general relationship: - CC. Corpus callosum; S1. Septum lucidum (note its bilaminar composition); F’. Body of the fornix; F’’. Descending columns of the fornix on their way down to the mammillary bodies; Cd. Head of caudate nucleus (ventrolateral to which is the anterior part of the internal capsule); P. Putamen; G. Globus pallidus; Cl. Claustrum; I. Insula; S. Sylvian fissure (lateral sulcus); Ot. Optic tract; Am. Amygdaloid nucleus. Look closely at the cerebral cortex and note its laminated structure.
