Description:'EXPORT OF MONKEYS
PRICE "WAR" REPORTED IN DELHI
The latest figures for the export of monkeys from India, covering the period from April, 1956 to January, 1957, show that a total of 150,000 were exported, all for medical research. Of these, 120,000 went to America, 18,000 to Canada, and 8,000 to Britain. The official value of this trade is about £660,000.
In the previous 12 months, 116,000 monkeys were exported. The past three months, according to the shippers, have witnessed a price war, and trappers who used to sell monkeys to the shippers at £3 each now sometimes ask for £8.'
