Description:

“Link between Deafmutism & blindness”. Please would you not like to define “blindness” or rather say what disease. Blindness is not a disease. Neither I suppose is Deafmutism unless you begin by limiting the term to a certain kind.
The only pedigree one knows of as associated with Deafness & nerve type (the –muteness is a result of the deafness is it not?) is retinitis pigmentosa. There the association is common. The deafness is not always complete & when incomplete they are of course not mute. Idiocy & deafness is also associated with Ret. pigmentosa; but so it may be with certain other congenital eye conditions whilst deafness I believe goes only with retinitis pigmentosa.
Yrs very sincerely,
E. Nettleship.’
