Description:
‘...
Thank you very much for your invitation. I will try & call if I can, say after breakfast early on the 29th, but again I must be rather indefinite as I am entirely in the Galtons’ hands & want my talk with him, whenever it may fit best his present habits. I should like to see the dogs, especially Patty.
Now I can’t be certain yet, but both Miss Thompson & Mr O’Donogue find traces of pigment granules in the earlier sample of her tail hairs! We are cleaning for a week in alcohol to be quite sure & should like further samples of hairs from different parts of her present tale [sic]. If it is verified then we have got the first stage towards non-albinism, granular pigmentation and the offspring of Patty and the other dog will be most exciting.
Bullock’s account of poor Tang is very sad. I think the whole thing must have developed during the last three months, although it probably followed on her failure after mating with Jack. She seemed very fit when we were in Yorkshire & was able to walk quite long distances, fed well & was positively saucy.
Yours very sincerely,
Karl Pearson.’
