Description:
‘Dear Pearson,
The dead black & white Pompek x albino cross pup has a short, stumpy, blunt snout; mucous membrane of nose is black, except a part of right nostril which is pink. No evidence of projecting lower jaw; no palate pigment.
The other dead pup with red pupils has a blunt snout, &[?] the head is more like a Pekinese than a Pomeranian; mucous membrane of nose is pink; no palate pigment. The patches on coat may perhaps be called pale liver colour or pale buff, but you will see when the skins are sent. It will be better to wait a little longer to let the skins dry before sending them. We cut a piece of skin out of each wh. includes part of a patch in each case, this of course leaves a hole in the preserved skin. I have photographed the 2 dead puppies before skinning & I hope they will be successful, this will not prevent the stretched skin from being photographed again.
The mother (pompek) is called “Mairi dhu,” the father is either Ian ban or else his son Dugald ban, it was intended that Ian ban should mate Mairi dhu for Dugald ban was a failure when tried with a bitch some time ago, so that he was nearly sent off [sic]. I am writing to the man in Edinburgh for more particulars.
Two pieces of pups’ skin are being sent in same bottle, the dark patch on one distinguishes it from the paler piebald albino skin.
I had intended to say when in London that your pupil who was intending to come to Aberdeen had not put in an appearance. Perhaps I should have written to his business place here which I am sure you told me of. If he is in Aberdeen very kindly give me his address again. Somehow I was trusting to his calling here.
Yrs sincerely,
C.H. Usher.
