Description:

This morning also there was some interruptions [ille.] Mr. Usher. Colonel Usher ought to say [same? in?]. He is going to Salonika with a General Hospital. There is another breach in all one’s past work. He spoke about the possibility of non-return & gave me the name of his executor. It sounds so sad & I can do nothing of real value for the war, like these somewhat younger men. I can hear nothing of the raids, except that they were seen from Dover & aeroplanes went up but nothing very stunning[?] happened. Nevertheless something big happened somewhere. Next visitor was a police-officer about my conscientious objector, but as he has not yet arrived the interview was short. Next Miss Elderton on her way to Miss Ball’s. I shall hope to hear really how she is tomorrow. I lunched with Young at A.B.C. & had some talk with him, of a fatherly kind. He proposes to take 14 days holiday & I think if he does this I should like to ask him down for a week end. They have all really had a trying time with the weather here.
Tell Helga to have something in the garden for me to do. I shall feel the cottage all the more refreshing after this.
Ever your loving,
K.P.’
