Description:
‘[Coldharbour]
My dearest Wife,
... We got away from College all well & did not feel the gunnery[?] I think. The dogs both came with us, Hans coming back at 3 o’clock, but it was too soon for Meg & I shall have to find another dog for her. Ling was in a great state of excitement and looked very fit. He had given no trouble. We had a fairly easy walk up – rather dark – but not too cold for coming up hill. I was hoping for a bright day today. It has not, however, come off. It was not snowing this morning however, and we had a really good walk round by Friday[?] Street with Hans & Ling & only one attempted fright & one attempted run away on Ling’s part. We got in again at 12 o’clock & it began to snow heavily at 12.30 & is now two or three inches deep, & is going on. This is sad as I had a good deal to do which involved going out... The dog’s blankets had arrived [last night] and Grethel & Hans slept in kitchen & Ling in Hall as usual. G. & H. sit curled up together in a most comical way. It is curious that Ling & Grethel excite each other, but Hans & Grethel do not appear to do so in the least. It cannot be that they are same litter dogs as Ling & Choo also were. I hope to be home at the usual time on Monday & find you really better.
Ever your K.P.’
