'Nearly 10,000 nurses qualified for State registration last year, and the numbers have been increasing steadily. Why then is there a shortage? There are probably three main reasons: the greatly increased demands for trained nurses; the large number who start but do not finish, the three years' course of training; and the overall shortage of woman power.'
