Description

Notes that spinal cases 'did very badly throughout, as was anticipated. Most of them were immediately evacuated to base hospitals and fully 80 per cent died in the first few weeks in consequence of infection from bed sores and catheterization. The conditions were such, owing to pressure of work, as to make it almost impossible to give these unfortunate men the care their condition required. No water beds were available, and each case demands the almost undivided attention of a nurse trained in the care of paralytics. Only those cases survived in which the spinal lesion was a partial one.' (759)
