Thorsen notes that Meisner 'was appointed professor of natural history and geography in 1805, and he corresponded with scientists outside Switzerland. He roamed the mountains and collected, observed, and drew from nature, writing several books on natural history. From 1801 onward he classified and organized the collections in the naturalia cabinet in Bern, in which Barry later was displayed.' (132)
