Description:
‘Criticism about Pekingese Dogs.
Good Qualities.
Head – should be large, & proportionate to the body.
Breast – should be wide.
Ear – should be big.
Neck – should be short.
Eyes – should be prominent.
Legs – should be short, & much better if the two front ones bending over out so as to form a circle.
Tail – should wind upwards, & not be inclined to either way.
Nose – should turn upwards.
Colours.
Yellow & white
Black & white
} Equally distinguished (first class) [pencil: ‘Hei T’an Kun (Black Coal Stick)’]
Whole black (we call [characters]) [pencil: ‘Chin Mao K’ung] – (second class)
Whole yellow (we call [characters]) [pencil: ‘Golden haired excellence’] – (second class)
Red & fox or wolf colours – (third class)
Extra coloured
Whole black – with a small round white mark just over the top of the head we call [characters] [pencil: ‘Yü Ting (Gem button)’]
Whole black – with four white paws or legs, we call [characters] [pencil: ‘Hsüch-li-chan (stood-in-the-snow)’
Blemishes or incompleteness
One white leg or paw (we call [characters] [pencil: ‘Ku Chao (orphan paw)’] – worst.
Red nose (we call [characters]) [pencil: ‘T’u pi (Bald nose)’] – worst
One white mark from the forehead to the nose (we call [characters]) [pencil: ‘Pai Pi Liang (White nose ridge)’]
Lame, or blind or any other kind of blemishes not natural (we call [characters]) [pencil: ‘Chüch[?] Chien (Defect blemish)’]

‘Chinese Pugs
1. Are called ha pa kou [characters] or pa kow [characters] [pencil: ‘meaning unknown’]
2. Short-haired are preferred to long-haired.
3. Best colour is yellow & white – skewbald, called the hsi ng’ich, or apricot dog. [characters]
4. The bridge of the nose must not be yellow.
5. Black & white come second.
6. The long-haired pug is called Shih-Tzŭ Kow
7. Best colour for lion dog [characters] is yellow.
Yellow with black spots is called tien tzŭ kow. [characters] [pencil: ‘Tien-tzŭ Kow (spotted dog)’]
8. Black dog with white teeth or any dog with different feet, or any dog with different feet to body colour is acceptable, but all feet must be the same. One coloured foot is called [character] [pencil: ‘Ku Chua-tzŭ (orphan paw)’]’
